Dear Gents
I have recently visited the Millichope School website as I have a personal connection with the school. From 1948 until 1954 my father was a teacher there and his name was William Carr always know as Bill. What originally drew me to the website was that I have been going through some of my Fathers books and I came across a cricket book called "Cricket in the Blood" which had been given to my Father in 1953 and was signed by a few of the boys, one of the signatures being Philip Taylor . The book is signed "Cricket champions Millichope School.1953" and "With best wishes to Mr Carr from all at the Pemberton House". I have attached a photo of the book and the inscription written inside just In case it prompts a few memories.
I know that the love of his life was cricket plus being a keen cricketer himself, there is indeed a photograph of him from Derek Scolfield's collection standing with the 1952 cricket team. He is the teacher standing on the far left back row dark hair with glasses. He also is on these photographs from Derek Scohfield collection Millichope intake - 1948 front row 6th from the left. Millichope Summer term - third row 1st on the right. Millichope 1949 - front row 4th from the right. Millichope 1950 - front row 6th from the right. I think he is easily identifiable by the fact he is wearing glasses and while looking at these photos I realised that so few people actually wore glasses then.
I also have a shield which I believe was from my Fathers House which was Pemberton . This has the inscription "Semper Viremus" ( always lively or vigorous) and this shield has always had pride of place in our house. This shield design is the same as the Apley Park School crest (from the website). Thought you might like a photo of the shield as well.
Anyhow thank you for your time and I hope I have brought back some pleasant memories for you.
Best wishes
Judy Wainwright
